Dominion Tide
Dominion Tide asks you to build up a cluster of island colonies, balance resources, and send fleets out to contest territory. It's real-time, but slow enough that you're never panic-tapping. Most of the game is quiet planning punctuated by tense moments when two fleets meet.
The pinch-to-zoom map controls are excellent — you can swipe around a big board smoothly and queue orders without the interface fighting you. I appreciated that the tutorial trusts you to figure things out instead of holding your hand for an hour.
It's one of the heavier games we tested on battery. Long sessions with lots of units on screen will warm your phone. There's a battery-saver toggle in settings that caps the frame rate, and honestly the game loses nothing from it. I'd leave it on.
